End Tidal CO2 Monitor

Features

·     End Tidal CO2, inspired CO2, and respiratory rate are measured and displayed on the computer screen.

·     A capnogram is generated and displayed on the computer screen, along with a smaller trend graph.

·     Operator can set high and low values for all measurements.

·     Values included in the trend monitor report.

·     Capnostat 5 CO2 Sensor.

·     Large airway adapter fits ET tube sizes greater than 4.0mm

·     Small airway adapter fits ET tube sizes 4.0mm or less

How It Works

 

·     Airway adapter is placed into the patient’s ventilator circuit and the Capnostat sensor is attached.

·     The End Tidal CO2 Module operates based on the principle that CO2 molecules absorb infrared (IR) light energy at specific wavelengths, with the amount of energy absorbed being directly related to the CO2 concentration in the exhaled breath.

·     When the IR beam is passed through a gas sample containing CO2, the electronic signal from the photodetector (which measures the remaining light energy) can be obtained.

·     This signal is then compared to the energy of the IR source and calibrated to accurately reflect CO2 concentration in the sample.

 

Pulse-Oximeter Monitor

 

Features

·     Level of patient's blood oxygen saturation will be displayed on the computer screen as a percentage.

·     Operator can set high and low alarm values.

·     Values included in the trend monitor report.

·     Two styles of sensors

o        Lingual-transmission sensor for use on patient's tongue or ear lobe.

o        Transflectance-reflective sensor for use on non-pigmented tissue (perineal area, inside ear flap, hairless part of the abdomen).

Benefits

·     Allows user to better monitor patient health during anesthesia.

·     Determines arterial oxyhemoglobin saturation.

·     Allows user to know whether animal is getting enough oxygen to organs and tissues.

·     Aids in the detection of hypoxemia.

How It Works

·     Measures the absorption of red and infrared light passing through tissue.

·     Attach lingual sensor to patient's tongue or ear lobe.

·     Transflectance sensor

o        In the perineal area, shave site at base of tail near the anal orifice.

o        Place light detector of the sensor against the skin.

o        Secure sensor, being sure not to restrict blood flow.

 

Temperature Monitor

 

Features

·     Temperature is constantly displayed on computer screen.

·     User sets high and low alarm values.

·     Values included in the trend monitor report.

·     Temperature sensor

o        Is suitable for monitoring patient temperature during anesthesia and surgical procedures.

o        Consists of a small bead thermistor embedded in the end of a thin (3mm) cable, which is completely sealed.

·     Aids in diagnosing animal's health.

·     Anesthesia is dependent on temperature.

·     Hypothermia is very common in post-operative patients.

o        It causes slow recovery to surgery

o        Increases mortality

How It Works

·     Measurements are taken by placing the small, temperature-sensitive probe inside the rectum or esophagus during anesthesia.

 

Oscillometric Blood Pressure Monitor

 

Features

·     Measures non-invasive systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure in less than 60 seconds.

·     Measurements are displayed on the computer screen in mmHg.

·     5 different sizes of cuffs allow measurements on different sizes of animals

o        Selecting the correct cuff size

·     User sets high and low alarms for each measurement.

·     Values included in the trend monitor report.

·     Interval between readings may be set anywhere from continuously to once every 99 minutes.

·     Measurements may also be taken manually by the click of a button.

Benefits

·     Blood pressure is extremely important in diagnosing disease in older animals, especially cats.

·     Without the ability to measure blood pressure, hypertension is nearly undetectable. Symptoms do not show until there are dramatic signs, such as blindness.

·     Early detection leads to early treatment.

·     Any drug therapy that affects the cardiovascular system may create significant changes in heart rate and blood pressure.

·     Blood pressure may drop drastically with the use of some anesthetic agents.

How It Works

·     Select the correct cuff size.

·     Place the cuff around the distal part of a leg or at the base of a tail.

·     Position the mark on the outside of the cuff, over the artery.

·     The computer automatically inflates, and then slowly deflates the cuff.

·     Minute movements of the air in the cuff (oscillations), resulting from initiation of blood flow in the artery, is detected and used to determine pressure.

·     Repeat measurement several times.

·     Throw out high and low readings and average the remaining.

 

Respiration Monitor

 

Features

·     Continuous monitoring of patients breathing during surgical procedures.

·     Thermistor housed in an in-line ET connector.

·     Calculated respiratory rate is displayed on the computer screen.

·     User sets high and low alarm values.

·     Values are included in the trend monitor report.

Benefits

·     Quick and easy way to monitor that animal is breathing at a steady, normal rate.

·     May be the first indication of respiratory stress.

How It Works

·     Respiration is detected by the temperature difference that occurs with inspiration and expiration.

·     Ambient temperature, patient core body temperature, sensor distance from the mouth and flow rates may influence sensed respiration.

·     Place the air flow detector on the end of the endotracheal tube of anesthetized patient.
